The beautiful Doha Corniche

The beautiful Doha Corniche

When I saw the Doha Corniche for the first time, I knew it would always be my special place. It is arguably one of the most beautiful places in Qatar. With the shimmering Doha Bay onto one side and the Corniche Street on the other, the Doha Corniche is a sight that anyone would absolutely enjoy.

But, years ago the Corniche had been just a stretch of waste land with the Sheraton Hotel standing all alone. However, since recent past it has been renovated with the hope of boosting the tourism trade in the country and now after the sun goes down, its skyline is a joy to look out for.

The word “Corniche” itself originally was derived from French. It can also be found in some other countries too like the UAE, Oman, France and Lebanon.

The Doha Corniche has been considered as one of the city’s major tourist attractions. Also, it has become a special retreat amidst the locals as well as the expats. A common sight that one would see in the evenings is the many joggers sweating it around the Corniche and people enjoying a leisurely stroll.

On a Friday morning after sunrise, the Corniche is packed! That's only when the weather is good though, so give it a few more weeks before heading out...

I would agree about the ambience aspects . I suppose people go there because it's there , not because it is an attraction

The problem with these "major tourist attractions" is that they are artificial, not grown, and without any connection to the Qatari heritage. They are bad copies at best.

If you compare it to the Boulevard St. Michel in Paris it's nothing. It has no ambiance at all.

Love the Corniche , although I doubt if you can call it a "retreat".

The fact that there is no access to a public beach makes it less appealing
