Halal Qatar Festival 2020 underway at Katara

Halal Qatar Festival 2020 underway at Katara

By QLNews

If you want to connect with Qatar’s rich heritage and learn more about locally bred and managed livestock, the 9th edition of the Halal Qatar Festival is the event for you.

This unique nine-day festival opened at Katara Cultural Village on Sunday, February 2, featuring a host of fascinating activities for visitors of all ages.

The festival draws livestock raisers in great numbers, particularly for the live auction of various breeds of livestock, one of the most interesting features of the festival.

Families and children can engage in a host of activities such as observing the livestock at the barns, camel and horse riding, watching artists create livestock-themed paintings, or simply getting their hands on some traditional handicrafts. The artisans will explain to visitors about the specific creations and their link with Qatar’s past.

Additionally, children will have a chance to participate in some contests such as the Little Shepherd competition aimed at reviving traditions. The idea behind this activity is to pass on skills, experiences and knowledge of the profession to the next generation.

Visitors can enrich their knowledge about specific methods of sheep and goat breeding and also enjoy the overall traditional vibe at the festival.

Commending the growth of the festival over the years, Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim al-Sulaiti, general manager of Katara said, "Every year, the Halal Qatar Festival sees more developments and sophistication from both the technical and aesthetic perspectives to expand its activities and the related competitions, with new items added.”

The festival will run every day until Monday, February 10. You can follow Katara here to know more about the festival.
