It's "Back to School" season in Qatar

It's time to go back to school. All malls and major supermarkets in Qatar are on full swing with promotions and offers. The QNL (Qatar National Library) hosted a two hour event for both parents and children to inspire creativity among kids and to set the mood for the start of a new school year.

Almost everyone has a word or two to say about the impending traffic that will crowd the roads once schools start.

However, most children are still in the holiday mood. Even the kids who look forward to the start of a new school year will have to cope up with a lot of changes in study material, activities and etc. Although a lot depends on the children to adjust as per these changes, the parents too can make it way easier for them in many ways.

Review and double check all the materials and lists sent by the school. Also, try not to wait till the last moment to buy all the necessary school supplies.

Re-introduce the meal time and bed time routine to your child, so that he/she would have already slipped into the routine once school starts.

Turn off the TV and encourage your child to play quiet games, solve puzzles or give them a book to read or a picture to colour. This will help them to be prepared to learn once school starts. One can even follow this throughout the year.

If your child’s school is not very particular about uniforms, get your child to select his favourite clothes for the first day of school.

Visit the school, when it starts, with your child especially if he’s new to the place. This could help in calming down any anxieties that your child may have.

For the parents who will be sending their children to school for the first time, remember, things might not be as smooth as we want at the beginning but it will all eventually work out well!

Very informative - Thanks. It seems that Qatar is the only place in the world where children go to school and both parents and children have to be retrained each summer
