QL Exclusive: An interview with Noof Al Marri, the chef and owner of Desert Rose Cafe
Qatar Living speaks to the Qatari entrepreneur and owner of Desert Rose Cafe, Chef Noof Al Marri, to learn more about her journey and interest in gastronomy and the food culture.
Chef Noof Al Marri is the founder of Kashta restaurant and Chef Noof Company for restaurant management.
She is recognized as one of Qatar’s stars specializing in local cuisine.
Over the years, Noof’s passion for her line of work has led her to participate in several local and international food shows in Doha, China, Turkey, Germany, and India.
She has taken many classes and courses in traditional cuisines of all the countries that she has visited.
Based on her gastronomy culture knowledge, she said that the food culture of Qatar influenced by the rice and spices from India and the food from the Levant, and the spices are what distinguish the Qatari cuisines.
“Spices are the gate to the good taste,” Chef Noof commented.
Chef Noof was naturally inclined toward food as a young child. She grew up with this passion until she chased her goal of becoming a recognized Chef in Qatar.
“My passion started when I was a kid thriving to help my mother in the kitchen. I remember when I started cooking for my own family, I faced a challenge in finding high-quality spices. This was the moment when I started to work on my own spices and then I had my own line of spices called - Spices by Chef Noof,” she described.
Chef Noof sees cooking as a kind of art. In her view, not just anyone can become a chef, as it requires skills and talent.
“Cooking has become so much of an art, skillful chefs are turning into superstars and their name is becoming a brand on its own, such as Gordon Ramsay, and many others,” she said.
Chef Noof broke international barriers with the Qatari cuisine, as she made her fingerprint locally and internationally.
Her dream was to have her own Qatari fusion concept. She was able to turn her dream into reality at the National Museum of Qatar.
Chef Noof mentioned that the Meet Qatar Organization has been a great opportunity to represent Qatar in Moscow, as it brought two cultures closer to each other.
Chef Noof worked on Qatar National Day (QND) in Moscow, and she hosted the dinner for the Qatar Embassy in Moscow to celebrate QND.
“It has been my pride to host the dinner of the Qatar Embassy in Moscow, to celebrate the National Day of Qatar. It was a milestone and a dream that I achieved, this was one of the most ecstatic moments of my career,” she described.
Chef Noof attributes her success to her family, saying that the person she is today is because of the support of her family.
Additionally, she said, the openness of the society helped her to go internationally.
Chef Noof advised all entrepreneurs to begin learning at an early age and to keep dreaming and believing in themselves.
