In a bid to support environment-preservation, in line with Qatar National Vision 2030, the United Development Company, jointly with Qatar Red Crescent, marked the Environment Awareness Day 2019.
The event brought together some non-profit organizations, public and private entities and members of the community, who combined efforts to clean up the Porto Arabia Seabed at The Pearl-Qatar.
Some of Qatar's professional divers took part in the event along with a high number of residents and visitors of The Pearl-Qatar.
Volunteers at the event exhibited a genuine spirit of the Qatari society, impassioned to preserve the country's natural environment.
Qatar is one of the world’s leading countries in terms of pollution reduction and addressing the negative impact of climate change.
The country emphasizes environmentally-friendly practices as part of the Qatar National Vision for 2030 and also under its commitment to achieve the United Nations' SDG on urgent action to combat climate change.
The Pearl-Qatar cleanup drive reflects UDC’s commitment to promoting environmental awareness, within the framework of the Company’s wider strategy and previous initiatives based on national and global sustainability principles.
The Pearl-Qatar’s coastline spans 32 km, with a mixture of sandy beaches, rock revetments, and sea walls.
The diverse environment of The Pearl-Qatar is home to over 98 species of aquatic animals, 23 species of birds, and 14 species of wildlife species.
A total area of 515,000 m2 of The Pearl-Qatar is softscape, including 66 different species of trees, shrubs, flowers and grass.
Over 10,000 trees and 70,000 plants have been planted since the construction works began on the Island.
