WATCH: Prominent People in Qatar - HE Lolwah Al-Khater
This episode of our Prominent People in Qatar series features one of the most inspirational women in Qatar, Her Excellency Lolwah Al-Khater.
Most notably known for her role as the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), HE Al-Khater wears several hats. She is a researcher, author, and an independent policy analyst.
Before her appointment as the Spokesperson, Her Excellency joined MOFA as Minister Plenipotentiary.
She also served as the Director of Planning and Quality at Qatar Tourism Authority and as a Research Project Manager at Qatar Foundation for Education, Science, and Community Development.
But, it was the crisis that stirred her into the direction of her current role at the Ministry, according to her interview with Women of Qatar.
She says she never thought of being in a position that combines communication, media, politics, and diplomacy.
"However, upon noticing the pressure my colleagues were facing at the time I believed that it was my duty to participate in providing my abilities and expertise to my country," she said.
Now the voice of Qatar at several important world events, Her Excellency Al-Khater has gained immense praise for her calm, skillful, and reasoned way of communication.
In addition to her role as the Ministry's Spokesperson, Her Excellency serves as a Media City board member as per decision no 20 of 2019 by HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior.
She is also the Executive Director of Doha Forum and has earlier worked as a part-time lecturer at Doha Institute for Graduate Studies.
HE Al-Khater's expertise is guided by a strong academic background. She holds a Master’s of Science in Computing and a Master’s of Arts in Public Policy and she is a Dphil Candidate at the University of Oxford in the area of Oriental Studies looking at the question of Islam and Modernity in the context of the Arab Nahda.
