WATCH: Prominent People in Qatar - Mohammed Saadon Al Kuwari
Next up in our Prominent People in Qatar series is one of the most prominent sports presenters in the region, Mohammed Saadon Al Kuwari.
One of the most charismatic, versatile and highly admired personalities in the Arab world and a role model, particularly for young people, in the Arabic-speaking world, Al Kuwari began his career as a sports presenter back in 2003.
He currently works as a sports presenter for beIN Sports (previously Al Jazeera Sports Channel).
Known to millions across the region, Al Kuwari has earlier served as a professional tennis player as the ATP Tour and Qatar Davis Cup representative before taking the plunge into the media industry.
He holds a bachelor's degree in sports science from Qatar University as well as a Master's in Broadcast Journalism degree from the University of London.
With extensive journalism experience complemented by his journey as an ambassador for several brands, Al Kuwari has managed to develop a massive fan following.
Recently, Vodafone Qatar announced Al Kuwari as its new brand ambassador. Being the new face of Vodafone Qatar, Al Kuwari supports the brand to highlight its transformative digital innovations in addition to the strides it has taken in Qatar’s 5G rollout.
Last year in May, the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC), the body responsible for delivering the infrastructure required to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar, also revealed Al Kuwari as an official SC ambassador.
He has been a long-standing supporter of the 2022 FIFA World Cup and the SC and has supported numerous initiatives in the past.
Al Kuwari has been an ambassador for the SC’s flagship innovation award, Challenge 22, volunteered for the international football for development program Generation Amazing, and volunteered at the Accessibility Forum – the SC’s ground-breaking initiative to ensure the 2022 FIFA World Cup is the most accessible in the tournament’s history.
Al Kuwari's passion for sports is evident from his long-standing association with the sporting world as a highly-respected presenter. In an interview with the Association of Muslim Footballers, he says he "loves to play football" whenever he gets spare time.
He also mentions three key attributes that make a great sports presenter. These include knowledge of sports, giving it all you can through hard work, and staying humble. "Ego, or being proud, could be one of the negative things for a tv presenter," he says, you can't succeed if you think you're the best and leave no room for improvement.
