On the special occasion of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani's birthday today, the Qatar Living team and the QL community have come together to share their best wishes with our beloved leader.

Born on June 3, 1980, in Doha, Qatar, HH the Amir received his primary and secondary schooling in the country. A part of his schooling was at Doha College.

Later HH joined Sherborne School in the United Kingdom, where he continued his secondary schooling and graduated in 1997.

After pursuing his higher education in the UK, HH the Amir joined the Royal Military Academy of Sandhurst from where he graduated in 1998.

After his graduation, HH Sheikh Tamim joined Qatar’s Armed Forces, combining both military academic study and practice and on the field experience.

On August 5, 2003, His Highness was appointed Heir Apparent and Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces. During his tenure, he chaired a number of bodies and supreme councils in different fields.

Among some of the most prominent things overseen by HH the Amir during his tenure as the Heir Apparent were the launch of the Qatar National Day - a day that among many things serves as an important occasion to reflect on Qatar's history and the accomplishments and values of its ancestors - and the National Sports Day - a day that signifies the importance of a healthy and active lifestyle.

HH the Amir became one of the youngest rulers in the world when he took charge as the Amir of Qatar in June 2013 at the age of 33.

Most admired by citizens and expatriates alike, HH Sheikh Tamim is a leader of grace, wisdom, and compassion.

Under his dignified leadership, Qatar has rapidly progressed toward new heights of success and continues to do so across all areas.

HH the Amir became the Head of State and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, and also assumed chairmanship of the Supreme Council for Economic Affairs and Investment, the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy, and the National Security Council, when he took over his duties as the Amir of Qatar.

HH the Amir’s hobbies include Tennis, Falconry, and sports (related to Qatari and Arab heritage).

In addition to the Arabic language, HH is fluent in both English and French.
