Have you been affected by the pandemic? Did you lose your job, your confidence, and what we usually call your ‘mojo’? Did you know that almost 114 million people in the world lost their jobs in 2020 alone? At QL, we like to believe in breaking stereotypes and having a positive outlook even in the darkest situation. Therefore, we’re bringing you some top tips to bounce back from your temporary unemployment!

Reaching out for help

The mental toll that this pandemic and lockdown has taken on everyone, the first and foremost thing to do is to focus on your mental health. Reach out for help from professionals before you start taking the route to recover professionally. Once you know how to tackle your triggers and are better at managing stress, the job hunting process will be a lot easier.

Seek professional guidance

We all have that one guru at work or outside our circle that we look up to. Reach out to people who know your strengths and weaknesses and push you in the right direction. Your guide should be the one who helps you step out of your comfort zone and helps in setting goals that are a step further than where you already stand

Add to your skills

While you are starting your new job hunt, you must add more skills to your CV. Learning new skills, especially in this lockdown and digital age, will always give you an edge. It can either enhance your existing skills or take a completely new route – you have time on your hands you better utilize it to the maximum! Enroll and take classes/courses online if you have to and get those skills amplified

Update your CV

The silver lining, you say? We agree. Update your skills according to the job you are applying for. We are in very competitive times and the same CV will not fall under all categories. Take the time out to draft meaningful cover letters and update your CV according to the job requirements. If needed, hire a professional to help you to edit and simplify your CV according to the industry you are applying in.

Put that networking to use

We’ve always encouraged our readers to network extensively – in and outside your work premises. It is always going to come in your favor! This can be that instance. Reach out to people who you believe will be able to put in a good word or forward your CV to the right people. If not, try to network more with the time you have on your hands - even the QL forums are your best friend right now! Do not underestimate the power of the internet.

The job hunt

We do realize that this is a daunting process but it's for the ultimate best to simply put yourself out there. A little positivity and exclusive selection can get you back in the market in no time. As for the time off that you’re getting right now, you need to get in some freelance or volunteer work, or as we said before, amp up those skills! Job boards, going in person and word of mouth – you need to utilize all your options.
