Hiring freeze at Al Jazeera English?

Hi all,
I was made a "soft" offer by al jazeera english back in August. Everything was going great. My paperwork was completed, I was told I was likely to start at the end of the year, ect. This was all until AJE underwent a very public change in leadership, with director general Waddah Khanfar leaving the company after a wikileaks scandal.
I was told by the people that initially extended me the offer that things were temporarily on hold until the new DG made a decision as to when to lift his "temporary" hiring freeze. But still nothing.
Question for people here: has anyone experienced the same thing? Or even better, does anyone currently working at AJE have any idea what is going on INSIDE the company now?
I'm continuously told the company wants to make the hire official and get me to Doha, but things have effectively come to a complete halt, and I'm trying to get a sense of whether or not to take AJE seriously when I'm told I'll have an answer "soon".
MWP.
