Smoking in Public Places
Could anyone clarify please if smoking in public places is prohibited in Qatar, and/or if not, is it something which is being discussed with lawmakers, in public forums or the media :
1) Office workplace, in elevators, at meetings.
2) Government buildings.
3) Restaurants, movie theaters, shopping centers.
4) Qatari Airways.
5) Gulf Airways.
Thank you for your help.
This thread had earlier discussed a couple of days back.
Most of the people are stubborn to stick to smoking despite the warning mentioned on tobacco items. Its is effortless to bring an smoker to non-smoking zone as it is not in his control except if he got an strong will power!

Everyone knows that smoking can cause cancer when you get older, but did you know that it also has bad effects on your body right now? A cigarette contains about 4000 chemicals, many of which are poisonous. cannabis seeds

there is an existing law that smoking in the public is prohibited....penalty should be imposed for those who violated...
Yr piece is interesting. Are the Qatari that friendly? Well, reading the articles here that no laws are enforced here, much will depend on the attitude of the locals to make the stay comfortable.
I am thinking of relocating to Doha. I have twin offers, one from Doha & the other from Dubai. Evaluating the pros & cosn yet.....suggestions welcome please
Few days ago i took my son to the gym class, we stopped at Starbucks in Landmark for a drink because it was too early.
While i ordered the drink ... I asked my son to 'pre-book' softchairs , i have no idea what happened. But I got my drink, sit down, and the Qatari guy next to our table come to us handed a lolly to my son.
'Your son embarrased me by asking me why you smoked while there is no smoking sign on the table?'
Hehe ... kids eh ...
No laws are enforced here. I think it is law to wear seatbelts and yet most children are driven around standing up in the front seat. It is a law not to use your mobile when driving (I think) and yet talking on the mobile in your car or in the cinema is one of the chief pleasures of locals.
That is an understatement, it is never enforced. That is part of the problem, the ruler announces a law, but no one has to obey, because that might offend a well connected local person.
Smoking in public places such as malls and theaters and I believe offices as well, is prohibited but the law is often not properly enforced.
