FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022: Launch of Hayya Card and accommodation websites
The Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy (SC) has announced the launch of the Hayya Card and a website for booking accommodations in connection with FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, which will be held from 21 November to 18 December.
To attend the matches, fans will need to apply for a Hayya Card after purchasing tickets. Hayya Cardholders will receive many benefits, including free public transportation when attending matches. International visitors will also be able to use it as an entry permit to Qatar.
Visitors to Qatar can now book accommodations through the dedicated "Host Country Accommodation Portal" with a variety of options available all year round, including apartments, villas, and cruise ship cabins. Traditional accommodation booking can also be done through hotel and holiday accommodation websites.
It should be noted that COVID-19 requirements will be determined by the Ministry of Public Health's latest guidelines, which will be announced in due time.
Qatar is preparing to host the most compact FIFA World Cup to date. Due to the proximity of all the stadiums to central Doha, fans have reduced travel costs while the event's carbon footprint will be significantly reduced.

During a press conference held on Wednesday evening to announce the launch of the Hayya Card and the accommodation booking website, Executive Director of SC Housing Department Omar Abdulrahman Al Jaber outlined the details of the Host Country Accommodation Portal, stating it is the main portal for booking accommodations that have been in development for quite some time to offer fans several options in one platform, as well as exclusive accommodation solutions and options that will be announced in the near future.
Moreover, he said that the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy will employ this platform to achieve urban sustainability once the tournament ends.
Al Jaber explained that the portal offers World Cup fans the option to select from high-quality accommodation options, including local, international, 3-star, 4-star, and 5-star hotels, as well as apartments and villas that have been adapted for residential use and provide residential services comparable to 5-star hotels – all at various price points throughout Qatar.
There are also 28,000 housing units provided by Barwa Real Estate Company, as well as giant hotel ships at Hamad International Port. There are 4,000 cabins on the two ships that can accommodate over 8,000 people. In addition, there are several residential villages, including one in Lusail, that provide 2500 housing units.
According to Mohamed Al Kuwari, representative of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Security and Safety Operations Committee, the committee is collaborating with its local, regional, and international partners in the organizational, security, and military sectors to guarantee the safety and well-being of fans during the World Cup.
He emphasized that the committee will exert every effort to enhance the security and public safety of all those in Qatar to the highest security standards.
According to him, the card is mandatory for entrance to the country and the tournament stadiums, and its owner enjoys multi-entry privileges and several security features, aimed at making the tournament as safe and secure as possible for fans.
During the World Cup, the Hayya Platform plays an integral part in the host country's effort to enhance fans' experience, said Saeed Al Kuwari, Executive Director of Hayya Platform at the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy.
He stated that the Hayya Card will serve as the gateway for all fans from outside and within Qatar to the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 stadiums, and it contains many benefits, such as free use of public transportation (Doha Metro), as well as other benefits that will be added over time.
The Hayya Card application process is straightforward, according to Al Kuwari. To attend the World Cup, all of the necessary procedures must be followed by the public. Through the platform, users can either purchase tickets or book accommodations and then apply for the Hayya Card.
There are two protocols to apply for a Hayya card, the first dealing with those from abroad with international documents. There are a few procedures that these individuals must follow: they must buy tickets and verify them, book accommodations and verify them, then apply for the card.
The second part refers to those with ID cards in Qatar; they must first purchase a ticket, then apply for the Hayya Card. Once approved, the digital copy must be downloaded through smart programs and Hayya. He reiterated that a ticket must be obtained before the card can be issued.
Al Kuwari said that fans from neighboring countries can choose to stay one day and that option will be available on the platform for those who wish to come and return the same day. In regards to Hayya Card service centers to print the Hayya Card, those will be announced and launched in the near future.
As Al Kuwari pointed out, many benefits characterize the Hayya Card compared to previous sports cards, as it features several options and the registration process is easy and convenient. Also, fans can benefit from access to tourist sites, transportation, entry to stadiums, and much more.
