Coach Josh grew up in the north of England in a town called Huddersfield. After a spell working as a football coach in America; Josh decided to take the leap and come out to Qatar to work for Future Football. Coach Josh took time out of his busy schedule to answer a few questions for us.

As you've been working in Qatar for over a year now, how has your view of Doha changed?

Doha is so different to what you expect. I feel you need to actually visit Doha to see how wonderful Qatar is. My favourite place to go is Souq Waqif, the atmosphere there is so calming.

When I first came here I did not know what to expect, I was a little overwhelmed as to how I would settle here, but the people I have around me and the children I coach have made me realise that this was the right move for me.

What is your favourite part of your Job?

In my role at Future Football I am co-ordinator of the 2-6 year olds. Coaching these groups lets me see how quickly a child can develop their locomotive and fundamental movements and helps to chart both the child’s progress and my own progress as a coach!

It is my job to make sure that these children enjoy their football and want to come back as these 2/3/4 year olds are the future of our academy

Why have you chosen to be a football coach? Why not follow a different career

Football has always been my number one hobby. From a very young age I always had a ball at my feet. When I was young, kicking a ball at a wall and using jumpers for the goals was what we did. I feel children now are too reliant on their games consoles;  for me coaching football is a way to get more children fit and active.

I have also played cricket in my time but my work has always been football. I chose Qatar after a spell in the USA I wanted to try and further my career. With the World Cup here in 2022 there will be so many opportunities and a great excitement around Qatar!

What do you like about future football?

At Future Football I have learnt so much in the last 12 months. I feel I have become a better person in the working environment and the tasks we get given can be challenging but everybody tries their best to do these to the best standard possible.

Before coming to Qatar, my role as a coach has always been to plan and deliver sessions, whereas, at Future Football, so many personal skills have been improved due to more responsibility such as office work and planning and organising our coordinating groups.

We are in official partnership with Lekhwiya Sports Club and the opportunities with this can be huge for both myself and the children we coach!

What is the strangest thing you have seen so far?

1. Seeing a tiger let loose down the middle of the road - only in Qatar would this happen.

2. When it rained, the roads near my home were flooded, I then saw 3 men using a canoe as their form of transport!
