Medical Prescriptions

Hi everyone

I have a question that may show my ignorance of the area and culture, but there is something we need to know before my fiancé and I move to Doha.

Is it possible to get prescriptions filled in Doha from a doctor in the USA? Specifically, birth control?

By the time we get to Doha we will be married. However, my fiancé will still have a prescription for her birth control that she will need to have filled. The prescription is for medical purposes as well as for contraception. We're not sure if she will need to have the prescription written by a local doctor, or if her current prescription will suffice.

Is it against local culture or religion to use birth control? Is this something that is readily available for women who need it? How is the health care process for foreigners?

I apologize for such blatant and somewhat ignorant questions, but this something that we need to figure out before we make the decision to move to Doha.

I appreciate any help you all can offer.

Thank you.

Thanks Butterfly. I appreciate your help.

I know it was kind of a funny question. I apologize for my ignorance. I wanted to make sure there were no religious beliefs against contraception (similar to Catholicism) that would prevent "the pill" from being readily available.

Thanks again for the help :)

Ha ha ha! They use birth control like everyone else in the world :)

(however there are sooo many babies in doha, sometimes I wonder if the pill sold here really works!)

Here, she can by "the pill" in any pharmacy without prescription and most brands are available. No need for a doctor's prescription. But she can get a presciption if she really wants to by a local doctor. There are hundres of gynecologists in doha.
