Introduction and a couple of questions
Just a quick hello and my name is Dawn. My parents have been traveling in the ME on business for years (they sell furniture). They have a customer in Doha who wants to talk to me about hiring me for my various and sundry skills in furniture design, development, and interior design. I am checking everywhere for my hubby a job, and have come across several. Housing will probably be taken care of, as well as (of course) furnishings. My main questions are this:
1) Are there any good "cat" vets there? We have 3, one of which is diabetic and has to have his sugar checked regularly.
2) How hard is it to bring in animals?
3) If anyone on here has heard of the SCA, or any living history groups, do you know if there is something similar there?
That's all for now. Thanks for any help.
Helloqatar? I have friends from all over. Some from Johnson city, Boone, etc.
Ric's American, huh? That's how my dad spells his name.
We are getting more excited. I just hope we do get to move there.
You can get Grits for breakfast at Ric's American cafe.
Being from East Tenn, Doha is no problem.
Ok, I thought about it, and if there is no ham to make red ey gravy for said grits, I guess it's okay. I swear, if we weren't so adventurous and already cook ethnic things at home, we wouldn't even THINK about this job.
I have to get together a bunch of work related stuff and send it to him so that I can get the process going. We are hoping to go over in Oct to visit (just to be sure) and then move after christmas.
Hope to meet yall soon! Thanks for the help and all the good info here!
No grits in Qatar I'm afraid.
What is there website, please?
BTW I should have said we are from the US. NC to be exact. Anybody from the south that I can ask where to buy grits? Or is that yet another thing I have to buy up and ration?
Hi Dawn, defintely call QAWS and get the number for Dr. Hussein, he's excellent. It may be difficult to get your cat into the country because a lot of countries won't allow cats in right now because of bird flu (which is why my kitty is stuck back in Canada). So you'll want to check with customs before you try to do anything.
We are coming in August and have been doing lots of research into bringing our cat. Basically they all need to have all the vaccines (rabies, cat flu, etc), then a short time before you fly you ned to get a health cert from your vet (not sure how this will be with your poor diabetic cat, but hope it's okay). In our case, I need to send a copy of this to my employer who will then register and okay it with the Ministry of Agriculture, then armed with the original we should be able to bring Ivanhoe in.
Don't know about Vets, but there was an earlier thread that mentioned some. If it's any good to you, given you have 3 and not 1!, KLM will let you take one of your cats in the cabin with you, providing he is not too heavy.
Finally there is an association called QAWS which is a kind of cat rescue place, I think, but has quite a lot of useful stuff on their web site.
