Love it, bring as much as I can on my trips to Dubai along with bacon and Kelly (Srilankan pork) sausages. Have not found a good enough place in Bahrain.

There were plans to have it sold in Qatar like they do in Dubai, I do not know what happened. Hope they do start soon. Wishfull thinking.

Or we could be good to Sammie, DG and ask them to get us some. :)

sl, where are you from.

Bullsshake, this is Qatar.

We do not get pork products here since the past 8 to 10 years.

It is not allowed, unless you know someone at the US Army base and you are really good to them.

The next option is to travel to Dubai or Bahrain, have your fill and come back with a few.

janemac,

If the job ad says you need arabic, then you will. I wrote some of the JD's. Arabic will be essential.

I'll be applying for a few positions over the weekend--they don't entirely match my background but I am hoping that once I send in my application something will come up. One of the positions requires speaking Arabic (I don't).

Did you get recruited in the UK?

You didn't say what your position will be.

Hi Caroline:

Did you get a job with DAGOC? What will you be doing? Sounds like the hiring process and your move to Qatar happened rather quickly!

Good luck with the move and your new job.

Thank you Caroline, but I'm not too keen on bacon. Gimme serrano or parma ham anytime!

I will get my Mil to bring me some, I only have to wait few days.

Again, thanks for the offer and hope you will enjoy your time in Doha.

Dweller is right, customs are more relaxed now. Have the ham in an unlabeled food bag, and not too much (about a kg). I bring mine from Dubai either Stop and save/shop or choitrams, lals, luv the chops, spare-ribs.

I got caught once with a large quantity (as we were having a bbq) at customs and the officer mentioned that they are aware that people are bringing Pork products to Qatar but the officials turn a blind eye to it, unless the quantity is large and the officials feel it is for profit purposes. Well at this time it was confiscated and I was detained at the customs office for about an hour, they threated to deport me. Well i am still here. And i still bring in pork ham, bacon, chops etc only in small quantities (Max about 3 kg)

Regards

Suitcases are scanned routinely and I believe that a little sticker is placed on the suitcase at the point that the offending item shows up. The sticker cannot be removed as it disintigrates. When they used chalk it was much easier as you could hand carry your suitcase to customs and rub the chalk off on your trousers.

If they are bringing a joint of pork tell them to have the bones removed as the bones shows up on X-ray.

Bacon, the vacuum packed is best.

If they are stopped and it is discovered tell customs that it is for personal consumption. Things are much more relaxed than they used to be.

what will we do - If they decide to enter with Pork and are free from a week in the local "Hotel" Im flying out there next week and will bring some with me! you can have it, I know they scan and anything that looks like alcohol is checked, how would you scan for a Ham

The beach sounds like a good idea, what about the museum ?

By butterfly• 14 years 6 months ago.

HAHAHAHA.

I'm thinking beach beach beach to keep them busy... Poor, I don't want them to end up in jail just cause I'm craving for some real ham.

I'm not sure how relaxed is Qatar on bringing pork meat...

Do they scan suitcases for Pork? I suppose as long as they dont find out if anyone did what sort of punishment would it be? How liberal is Qatar on this subject.

the punishment may sort out how to keep them entertained for a week !!!! lol
