“Careful attention to cultural preservation makes Doha feel more authentic than nearby Dubai,” the report states, according to The Peninsula.
The acknowledgment reflects Qatar’s increasing popularity as a destination of choice for globetrotters and tourists, and comes just days after Qatar was listed in The New York Times’ ‘52 Places to go in 2019.’
Qatar is lauded for becoming “more and more self-reliant since 2017” in the Forbes’ report, which also recognizes that the people of Qatar have displayed more unity since the blockade.
Additionally, the report commends Qatar’s leadership and underlines the nation’s focus areas comprising Education, Healthcare, Sports, and Arts. Particular mentions are made to Qatar’s Western universities, new hospitals, and football stadiums, constructed for the upcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup, reported Gulf Times.
Qatar’s National Museum, which is expected to open in March this year, has been featured in the report along with Msheireb Downtown Doha, which is hailed as “a sustainable, mixed-use residential, commercial, and cultural complex.”
The Falcon Hospital, Al Shaqab Equestrian Center, Imam Muhammad ibn Abd Al Wahhab Mosque, the Museum of Islamic Art, the Fire Station Art Complex, Nobu at Four Seasons Hotel and Katara Cultural Center are added to the Forbes’ list of recommended places to visit in the city.
The other 14 places on the Forbes’ list are: Montenegro, Chile, Perth and Tasmania in Australia, Chengdu in China, Puerto Rico, Egypt, Berlin in Germany, Baja Peninsula in Mexico, Dolomites in Italy, Japanese Countryside, Namibia, Israel and Texas in USA.
Earlier, in 2018, Qatar was named the "most open country" in the Middle East and ranked number 8 ‘most open in the world,’ in terms of visa facilitation, as per the World Tourism Organization’s visa openness rankings, as mentioned in Gulf Times.
