WATCH: Exclusive peek at Phase 1 of the impending Qatar Rail launch
The new Qatar Rail system is bound to significantly boost connectivity in Qatar and is set to open its first phase within a year. Qatar Living was able to go behind the scenes on the construction sites, to enable all future commuters a sneak peek of the project.
There are three major projects that were introduced by Qatar Rail: the Doha Metro, the Lusail Tram and the Long Distance Rail, which are set to be connected to a wider GCC rail network. The Doha Metro will be one of the fastest driverless trains to date, reaching 100km/h. The first phase will feature 37 metro stations, 24 Lusail trams and 240 outlets to cover most of the densely populated areas in doha.
The multi-billion dollar state-of-the-art integrated rail network is Qatar’s latest effort to ease traffic congestion and significantly reduce travel distance. The main objective is to create a reliable and accessible metro and tram system. It will also introduce phases in the forthcoming future, which involve the debut of an additional ‘Blue’ line, and expanding the proximity of the current ones, as well as the addition of 60 new stations. The core of the network will cover central Doha and West Bay whereas the blue lines will cover C-ring road. All of the other lines— Red, Green and Gold—connect at Msheireb Central Station,
As seen in the first phase of development, there will be a total of 37 new stations covering more than 70km of functioning railway. Expectantly, this will be an extensive change in the development of Doha and its surrounding areas.
Stay posted as we disclose a video tomorrow which highlights new site modifications to address safety, forthcoming facility designs and many more comprehensive advancements in the final stages of development.
