Visa information

By bvv75

Hello everyone,

Good website and great people. I have read many of the posts and found them to be very informative about Qatar. I’ve been offered a job in QP. I have send all the relevant documents to them by mid Feb '06. Now I am waiting to hear from them about my Visa.

I had a few queries w.r.t Qatar.

1. How long does it take a company like QP to get a visa? What is the difference b/w an entry visa and a work/residence permit?

2. Other than the local health examination / finger printing (I gather it is very messy ;-)) what are the other mandatory procedures to be done on arrival?

3. How much time would it take to obtain a driver’s licence?

4. I am on a family visa. However I plan to travel alone initially. How easy would it be for me to bring my family to Qatar? Is there any website with the requisite information?

Appreciate any info you can provide on the same. Thanks in advance.

Best Regards.

Hi,

Qatar is a very nice place to live with so much job opportunities. I've been hearing a lot of people being offered nice job and nice pay with great benefits.

Most of them didn't think twice since Qatar is known for having nice employers. Most of these people hired from other country didn't have any problem when they came here in Qatar.

My husband got his residence permit and he's in Qatar. This week his company has handed over the visa documentation to the immigration office for me to get a visa. How long does it take for them to issue my visa? It took over two months for them to issue my husbands residence permit.

Same with nsy76, my husband already signed an Offer Job for a company at qatar since Sep 2006 but he not received visa yet. SOme of friend said during Ramadhan qatar employee only work for half day. It could make visa process become slower. The situation became bad because of Asean Gamaes. Maybe....

I think you are right on this one. QP is an expereinced Company and a Government owned one so there the pilimaries are much easier. In fact if they need you quickly they will process your documents accordingly.

Other companies might not be so lucky in processing documents - it's the luck of the draw.

I am afraid TG I am not with you on bringing the families at the same time - if there are small kids it is better that their home is already settled and they can just move in. Security and the feeling of having a home means a lot to kids when they are going through a change.

Missed your second Question..Yes Family can fly with you on a "visit Work Visa" Issued by QP..which is later converted to your sponsorship once your resident permit is stamped..

My suggestion..Always insist on bringing your family with you..it is really helpful during the initial setting up process..

I suspect..your being a One year contract they will insist that you stay in their compound ..which is a good facility compared to the commercial compounds which are too pricey..

Your visit Visa will have "WORK" written on it...The Visa is an entry visa into Qatar..Then QP within 8 Weeks arranges a "residence Permit" for you which is Valid for 3 years (For "Q" Employees only..Others generally have it for 1 Year)...

Your visa could arrive within 3 weeks..or more depending on your mobilization schedule...

After arrival at Doha..you will have to undergo medical again..Pay special attention to "audiography" test..

Visa information

I have submitted all the medical documents to QP on last week. They interviewed me in India.I have done the medical in India and send the document. They will send the entry visa first or the work permit visa. How much time it will take to get a visa after submittig the medical documents. If they are sending the entry visa ,work permit visa will be getting only after arriving in qatar. In that case family can also take along with entry visa.

Qd06

I think every case is diffrent. Based on my inquiry getting WORK visa takes 2-8 weeks. I guess it all depends on, your sponsor, your position and probably your nationality.

If you look at the post above someone indicated that it took 4 weeks to get an ENTRY visa for him, however, for me it took 4 days .

I just sent all my documents to QP so they can apply for work visa. I had interview and med exam in doha in mid april. I also like to have a more realistic estimates as how long it takes to get work visa.

By qd06• 15 years 1 month ago.

What are some of your experiences with the work visa? I know they say approximately six weeks. I think that is the official wording. I have been waiting a while for a visa. I am just wondering if it is politics within the organization or redtape from the government.

bvv75, anayeb, etc.,

In order to avoid confusion, i think one has to stick with his or her contract offer and discuss it with your HR rep.

There seem to be a variety of scenarios for housing and transportation allowances, according to your job grade, marital status and most importantly your job 'location'.

Reading posts on this site, one would think it's total chaos out there, there is no uniformity and there's a new system every day. I do sincerely 'hope' that there are clear corporate guidelines that HR reps understand and apply. Each case seems to be unique and you can't compare.

One thing remains: you have to understand and accept your own contract conditions, and if you don't, keep asking questions to your HR rep.

Anayeb,

The entry visa took a month. I am told that the work visa processing will start only after arrival in Qatar. The entry Visa is valid for a couple of months after arrival in Qatar, during which QP will initiate the process of obtaining the Work Visa.

As you correctly said, QP will conduct the medical examination in Qatar. In my case I had met the QP people when they came down to India. They discussed a sample contract with me and later send an almost similar contract to sign and return by mail. I think all discussions on the same should happen prior to travel.

With respect to the time frame involved in getting the Work Visa, Chemist in an earlier post has mentioned a period of 8 weeks to get the Work Visa and the residence permit after arrival.

Hope this helps and thanks all for the info.

is it your entry visa that took a month or work visa?

I am waiting for an enty visa to Qatar for a two-day visit with QP. Since you have gone through it can you tell me how it works? I guess when you go there for vist they give you the offer and do med exam on you. And then, they will apply for work visa for you whichmay take a month ....is that correct ?

Thanks

Hi everyone,

I got my entry Visa a couple of days back. It took approximately a month from the time I sent in my medical documents to QP.

My offer letter still mentions the 3 month accomodation followed by the housing allowance. As MOUDIR mentioned earlier, if they have done away with the housing allowance, when will they communicate the same? I am on a fixed term contract, having a 3 month probation period...

Planning to travel in June. How would the weather be at that time of year?

Best Regards

By Moudir• 15 years 1 month ago.
Moudir

No dweller, the probation period remains.

Except that, instead of paying a fortune on housing, plus getting people's continuous complaints about landlords etc., they've said fine: we'll take care of housing, but no more allowance. It seems to be a very sneaky decision and i don't want to go into detail here (on the Web) for obvious reasons, cuz it has many other ramifications which can only be seen if one has abundant grey substance. May be another time.

Hallelujah Moudir and thanks for that info,

I was against doing away with the free housing in the first place. It's taken a long time for them to realise that it is required. Have they also done away with the 3 month probationary period?

The temporary housing was initially for families to settle and see in which area they wanted to live.

Dweller, things have apparently changed,

the 3-month temporary accommodation period is gone... QP is taking charge of full accommodation with no allowances paid for housing.

Anayeb,

The visa will be an antry visa that will cover you for the short visit. It shouldn't take long to issue and you may not actually receive it. You may receive a letter (or e-mail) from QP that you can show to the airline advising that one is waiting for you upon arrival in Qatar. You will probably receive a PTA (Passenger Ticket Advice or PTA number) that you can confirm with the airline.

You will probably be shown around Doha (after the interviews) with particular attention to the temporary accommodation provided (probably for the initial 3 month period) and other facilities.

Unless things have changed dramatically the above is probably correct.

Hi everyone

I just sent my passport copy to QP so they get me visa for a visit. I guess it is an entry visa not work visa, since they are inviting me to go there for a couple of days. But, they did not tell me how long it takes to issue the visa. Does anyone have any idea? I need to plan and have no clue.

Thanks

I just finished getting all this stuff done myself so I'll try and help you out a bit:

1. The time to get your work visa depends on how the immigration office feels - expect 6 weeks or so. The difference between the visit visa and residence permit is that without your residence permit, you can't really do anything (except what a visitor would do) such as get a bank account, buy a car, get a cell phone, etc. You can arrive with a visitor visa and have it converted once your here (in case you're in a hurry).

2&3. To get a driver's license, you have to take an eye exam (really basic). A temporary drivers license is 150QR and when you get your permanent drivers license (after your residence permit) you pay 155QR. The licenses take about 1 day to actually receive after putting in the papers.

4. Can't help you with this one - I came alone. Try this website: http://www.e.gov.qa/eGovPortal/index.jsp

Just for general information: I came on a visit visa and had it converted to a work visa and got my residents permit and it ended up taking right at 8 weeks total for everything.

Hope this helps, good luck.
