Britons living in poverty

LONDON: More British families are living in extreme poverty since
the Labour party took power with a promise to eradicate inequality,
Britain's main opposition Conservative party said yesterday.

Conservative MP Chris Grayling said government statistics show that
more than 400,000 families live in extreme poverty - defined as less
than 40 per cent of the average national income - than in 1998.

According to the Office for National Statistics, the current national average wage is £24,000 (BD18,244).

Grayling said his analysis of official statistics showed that latest
figures, which record the financial years from April 2005 to April
2006, showed that 1.8 million British households were living in extreme
poverty.

London 'most dirty city' in Europe

LONDON: London is
the dirtiest and most expensive city in Europe, while Brussels is the
most boring, according to a British survey published yesterday.

London edged out Paris for the unwanted accolade of dirtiest city in
the survey of more than 1,100 travellers carried out by TripAdvisor.

Respondents said Paris was the most unfriendly, followed by London
and Moscow, but the French capital is still working its old magic as it
was voted the most romantic destination in Europe and the best for
shopping and dining.

London won out for having the best nightlife and public parks.

The cleanest city is Zurich, the survey said, although the tidy
Swiss city also finished equal second behind EU hub Brussels as the
most boring place.

Even the rich in UK feel poor...

Even the rich in UK feel poor

A tenth of the British population are classed as "rich" - but do not feel it. More than 2.5 million households earn £88,000 (BD66,308) - almost triple the average household income of £33,000 (BD24,800) - take two foreign holidays a year and have more than £20,000 (BD15,070) worth of disposable annual income, insurer Hiscox says. However, 90 per cent of them do not consider themselves at all wealthy, according to a survey of 1,000 professionals. So how do you measure up? Are you:

A home-owner living in the southeast? A professional worker with an income of £50,000-250,000? See yourself as "no longer ordinary, but not yet extraordinary"?

A funny take on Fish n Chips !

Fish & chips
From Uncyclopedia, the content-free encyclopedia.

“Bloody curry business is really going down Ganges if we serving this crap...”
~ Asian chipshop man on selling Fish & chips

“A bag o'scraps mate.”
~ Customer on Fish & chips

Origins
Absolutely millions of fish were swimming happily around the North Sea until Sir Walter Raleigh found potatoes in America. This was very bad news for the happy fish, because fish & chips is composed of two main ingredients: fish and potatoes - so we don't we need an IQ test to work that one out.

Fingerprinting.

Fingerprint

All visitors to Britain requiring visas will have to be fingerprinted starting yesterday, the government said. Immigration Minister Liam Byrne said those applying for a British visa from any of 133 countries would now have their fingerprints checked against a database.
Byrne said the system, which the government has gradually been introducing around the world since September 2006, had already captured biometric information from more than 1 million people. He said the system had flagged nearly 500 cases of identity fraud.
