However, I do find the cartoon offensive and inappropriate because it depicts a picture of the UK which is untrue. I am saddened by the loss of the young life, but it dioes not mean that London is a city rife with violance and murder..
Here the Cartoonist is playing on the grief and anger of a nation and trying to get brownie points from them.

I don't find the London ...I don't find the London cartoon offensive. It's just using a well known British stereotype, something that cartoons do all the time about subjects and countries all round the world. Indeed, most of the ones in the link ngourlay posted do exactly the same.
As with all stereotypes though, both positive and negative, we know that they don't apply to the entire population.

Well, I guess this is a good ...Well, I guess this is a good example of how different people interpret things differently and some get offended and some don't. So perhaps we can now better understand why some Qataris get upset at the generalisations and stereotypes being talked about on QL, while others are able to shrug it off and laugh at themselves.

I didn't see the comment, but unless there are facts given to back up the claims about the Islamic museum then yes, that is offensive. Again, without seeing the comment it's hard to judge, but it sounds quite specific rather than generalising or stereotyping.

Cartoon no 1 really reminds ...Cartoon no 1 really reminds me when i had arrived in Doha and used to see its map quite a lot but being inside the air conditioned room. I did not have the residence ID so could not have my own car and have a license before hand.
One day i intended to go to have a look at the sea site as i thought that the seas may be as attractive as a Red sea in jeddah. I took a bus but got the wrong one from LULU hyper market, it dropped me at some unknown place. I had to walk a lot in great heat to reach some other place to find another bus, it was really unforgettable memory.
I managed to reurn in the evening to my apartment wihout suffering heat stroke :-).

I find the cartoon funny IMHO,... ...nobody should be offended by any of the cartoon even if it sends chill to some. Let us remember that the recent situation here in local news is about that Qatari student and the cartoon is just part of current events.
It's the same things as security bulletins issued by certain countries to a certain country regarding warning to their citizens regarding security threats on a specific country. Its sounds offending to many but we just have to ignore it as part of their work.

Good thread Doctora ...I like these cartoons. They confirm what I have always thought - Qataris have a good sense of humor and have the ability to laugh at themselves as well as at others. I see nothing offensive about them at all.

Me too ! see no offense here at ALL! ...In fact somewhere I have a cartoon depicting the world's view of us in the UK when we first got the 2012 Games and it was far more offensive, and even MORE true than the cartoon doctor posted.
If I can find it I'll put it up here. Actually I think it was a slide show likening previous Cities which had held the games to how London be as a host. London was all graffiti and slums lol
You see that red double-decker at the closing of the Games in Beijing? I heard a guy on BBC say it may be more fitting at the opening of the games in 2012, for the lid of the bus and the doors to fly off in an explosion and then the athletes run out of it. Now that WAS 'sick' ! lol
