It might be a kind of meteor, that's one looks like, though i haven't seen a real one in my eyes at my age.

Must be aircraft's navigation lights. That time of the night that portion of airspace is opened (for a limited time) to air traffic coming from the west. Or it could be one of the aircraft from al udeid, they have all types of aircraft over there.

Even I saw it while driving down to the Airport road. Intially it looked like a large balloon to me and I said to myself thats strange ..moon cant be that big and as I drove closer to the airport to have a better look, it was diminishing and thought to myself ..must be the cloud that could be over shadowing it.. UFO sounds bit scare .. not that I havent seen strange ppls around !!!!!

It must be a fire Cracker..!!

I've have seen a similar scene over Qatar's skies, at a different time and place. I was with friends. We tried to take pictures but the object was too far fetched to catch with a 2mega pixel mobile cam.

What we saw was close to and far from:

1- far from a fire-work cracker
2- far from an aircraft
3- close to a shooting star / or a falling comet ( significantly: it had some kind of Halley Comet tail)
4-closer to a moving or rotating satellite/ telecommunication orbit

In all circumstances, I'd love to know it was a UFO or even more the Man from Mars --traveling on his rocket-sliegh.

Personally, I love UFO's, but the one i saw with friends was closest to a moving sat or orbit; either for broadcast or telecommunication

It was passed right after the 15000 QR wash your car law. It's actually 25000 QR for UFOs spotted flying over the country, 35000 if it's over the airport.

Huh. Definitely a UFO, then.

Its not a helicopter for two reasons which were obvious to us who saw it:

1. There was no familiar sound of a helicopter.
2.It did not move like a helicopter.It was much slower and was like a flicker.

What I saw was some thing really huge ..like the rocket in the movie Austin power !!!

while it may have abpeared to be travelling slow this is just an optical illusion. the after burners on a jet can be seen for for upto 10km on a clear night and the further aay you are it can give the illusion that its travelling slowly.

...believe that what I witnessed was actually a UFO but something tell me - it was not. :( . It did not have the characteristics :) of a lot of UFO witness accounts...The only two similarities that I see are:

1. It was not similar to anything I have seen.
2.It vanished in a wobbly fashion...

in most training flights there will always be two aircraft. the wobbly vanishing effect is caused by the jet wash after the inistial burn is switched off. as for the optical illusion you would have all witnessed this. its the same as an audience watching a magician unless you know what to look for you will all see the same thing.

My father has served in the Army for 21 yhears and I have spent my entire childhood in Army Cantonment family accomodations. Most of the times we had a houses very close to the bases and we could see all sorts of aircrafts taking off and landing.The point is ,I'am familiar with most of the jets and such too. It was not a jet guys...I'am sure abt it. The second same light that appeared(I couldn't take a picture of that)was much lower in the horizon and at no point I could relate it to anything I have ever seen...People,these wer something else.They could have passed off for a balloon except for the light which was much more intense...

It was a small planet coming toward the earth and the news paper wrote about it two days ago, But it will not affect the earth or crash with it.

There are Sauccer shaped helicopter....used in military activity

Something similar as sceen in the starting footage of the Action Film "XXX-2" where an army unit break into Top Secret place and try to kill all the spys in a certain unit.

The Science behind the device is that it has two upturned sauccer shaped blades (rotors), - one under the other - both turning in opposite directions. The flight path can be changed by adjusting the speed of the respective blade (rotor).

I saw this thing on NationalGeographic/Discovery (dont remeber which channel exactly) in "History of Helicopter". And looking at the Black & white footage it seemed to be from the early 70's or 80's. But never seen a picture/photo/video footage othe than that in my whole life. Its a very unconventional flying object.

The thing is very silent due to the design of the upturned cup like Rotor and can even suddenly change directions. It is also hard to detect on Radar due to its odd sauccer shape and very small size.

The footage version of it would not be bigger than the smallest sports-car. Today, I believe it could carry munitions, smaller missiles, multiple video camera transmitting live video with thermal & infra red abilities.

A smaller version could also enter your house through an open window, in complete darkness, take clear photos/videos in colour via infrared camera, x-ray scan you to see if you are armed, even shoot an injection via dart to daze/kill you..etc

In fact a similar toy (flying helicopter -round scauccer shape) was recently available in BabyShop here. The top was made of Thermocol. I bought it(QR 50), just to see how it would fly but seems like the damn thing was damaged. I never bothered to get it replaced.

Id go for the helicopter theory cuz of the pic and story, but out of the blue, ive also witnessed something fishy last night.
It only caught my attention for a glimpse, but came to the conclusion its probably fireworks (before reading this).
it was sometime between 9-10:30, i was next to the ramada signal, and the sky lit up twice over the maamoura/montaza'ish area.
it was just as if they were BIG fireworks, so i thought to myself are there any occasions going down? but couldnt think of any..
I was waiting to hear the big bang moments after the sky lit, but there werent any..
It was kinda strange at the moment, but chances of any serious action going on in the streets are low.. so i eventually carried on slurping away my frappalette

maybe coincidence, maybe not.

However, next week's asteroid pass "has no chance of hitting, or affecting, Earth," Yeomans said.

An actual collision of a similar-sized object with Earth occurs on average every 37,000 years.

Spotted last October by the NASA-funded Catalina Sky Survey in Arizona, 2007 TU24 is estimated to be between 500 feet and 2,000 feet long. The next time an asteroid this size will fly this close to Earth will be in 2027.

Scientists plan to point the Goldstone radar telescope in California and the Arecibo radar telescope in Puerto Rico at the asteroid and observe its path before and after its closest approach to Earth. Researchers will use instruments to measure its rotation and composition.

The 2007 TU24 rendezvous comes a day before another asteroid is projected to pass close to Mars.

Scientists have effectively ruled out a collision between the Red Planet and the asteroid 2007 WD5, estimating it will pass at a distance of more than 16,000 miles from the Martian surface. Initial observations of the Mars-bound asteroid put the odds of an impact at 1 in 25, but scientists later dropped the odds to 1 in 10,000.

...shaped helicopter looks very convincing. Ok let me respond to some of the other posters:

1. This one really looks different than an aircraft or a helicopter because none of them would go so slow on two instances(I saw two of them in a space of about 5 mins),none of them would wobbel before dissappearing.
2. I would have recognized it if it were any of our familiar objects. I have mentioned in one of my previous posts that I have some amount of knowledge on various flying machines.
3.It could not have been a meteorite.Meteorites fall 'towards' earth due to gravity and have a distinct 'tail' which is missing in this case.Secondly they have a very high speed,whereas, this object was very slow.
4. It was 'flickering' and appeared different from the light emmitted by airplane or other flying machine exhausts.

It seemed to be the tail end of fighter jet from where the exhaust comes out.

About a month ago or less, I was driving near the old airport area and saw what looked like a large ball of fire falling from the sky, slowly with what looked like sparks shooting off of it.
very odd. it was night and i was straining to see it, it was a quarter mile or so away, but my husband was in the car and saw it too. he thought it was a fire work display, but I disagree. looked like a BIG ball of fire and traveling in a very odd manor.

I think it is most propably a comet. This is the same look as what comets look when they penetrate earth's atmosphere.

There hundreds of comets fallen into earth's atmosphere every year but they immediately burn during their fall.

I just see this one is bit more larger in size.

Furthermore , if they were ppl from Mars, they are not allowed to enter Qatar field without local sponsor

...would be a confirmation from someone who is in the know of the US base here could confirm if they had launched 'something' at that specific time.

Actually it was probably the asteroid that was whizzing past earth. Think that was about the timing of it according to news reports.

These things usually i see it b'coz i m born in Qatar.  Its the chimni of the Petroleum company in Messaied from which it lighten up in the sky, at the same moment the clouds where there so the light appears on clouds, everybody can see it.
