Philippine History 101 Lapu - Lapu

Lapu-Lapu (1491 — 1542) was the datu of Mactan, an island in the Visayas, Philippines, who is known as the first native of the archipelago to have resisted Spanish colonization. He is now regarded as the first Filipino hero.

On the morning of April 27, 1521, Lapu-Lapu and the men of Mactan, armed with spears, kampilan and kalasag, faced Spanish soldiers led by Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan. In what would later be known as the Battle of Mactan, Magellan and several of his men were killed.

Kudos sa bagong Phil. Ambassador: Hon. Crescente Relacion

We went this morning to Philippines Embassy for the passport processing of my son and I am impressed for the improvements (1) New entrance- di na sa likod ng villa, (2) Additional service tables pagpasok mo ng embassy- di kailangan pumila sa iisang window (3) Mabilis na pagprocess ng papers- pagkabayad ko ng fee, diretso agad sa loob to verify the name of my baby, (4) while waiting napansin ko rin staffs are very courteous in answering phone calls. In less than an hour natapos na processing…Kudos to our new Amba and the Phil Embassy staffs, sana po tuloy tuloy ang pagbabago sa ikabubuti ng lahat…

Street corner ‘tutorial’

I just had to post this...from an editorial

THE kids watched as I tightened a shoe lace along one of Cagayan de Oro city’s poorer but remarkably clean-swept barangays. A tutorial on urban sociology was the last thing I expected.

“My mother is in prison,” volunteered Clara, 7. Why? “Shabu,” she said matter-of-factly. Paula, 6, claims a neighbor rival tipped off the cops. “Her mother burned all the shabu before the police arrived.”

Will you visit her in the Davao jail? “We have no money. But my lolo has been released.” He’d also been in the clink for drugs. “He often beats us though,” Clara gripes.

They proudly point to “our school.” Paula likes to color. “But I have no Crayolas.” Clara’s schoolbag has a book and a pencil. Nothing else.
