Ministry of Foreign Affairs Strongly Condemns Houthi Attack on Saudi Ship

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemned the Houthi group’s targeting of a Saudi ship while it was sailing in the Red Sea.

The Ministry described the attack as a flagrant violation of international navigation safety, a direct threat to the security of global energy supplies and a clear breach of international law.

It warned that the continuation of such attacks represents a dangerous escalation that threatens regional security and stability, as well as ongoing efforts to establish lasting peace and security in the region.

The Ministry called on the international community to fulfil its responsibilities by implementing the relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions, particularly Resolution 2216 concerning Yemen and Resolution 2722 on navigation rights and freedom of navigation in the Red Sea.

It stressed that freedom of navigation in international waterways is a fundamental principle of international law and the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.

The Ministry renewed Qatar’s full solidarity with Saudi Arabia and expressed its support for all measures taken by the Kingdom to protect its sovereignty, security and interests.

It also affirmed that Saudi Arabia’s security is an integral part of the security of Qatar and the Gulf Cooperation Council.

The Ministry expressed Qatar’s appreciation for Oman’s ongoing efforts to coordinate between Saudi Arabia, the Yemeni parties and the UN Special Envoy for Yemen, with the aim of resuming the political process and advancing the roadmap for regional security and stability.
