Unique and rare exhibit worthy collection- Irian Barat and Riau-Indonesia Provisionals. The postal histories of Irian Barat and Riau reflect Indonesia’s post-independence struggles. In Irian Barat, stamps overprinted “IRIAN BARAT” were issued in 1963 to mark its transfer from Dutch to Indonesian control. In Riau, during the 1958 PRRI rebellion, rebels issued “RIAU” overprinted stamps as a symbol of their separatist movement. Both overprints were short-lived, and regular Indonesian stamps were later used as the regions stabilized under central government control.
