MegaMart in Centre closed?!?
Just tried to go and it was closed! One of the ladies in one of the other shops said the gov't closed it down last week. She didn't know why and had no idea when it would re-open. I just got back from vacation so I haven't heard anything :-|
Anyone have anymore info? Or know if the one in Landmark is closed as well? Man, this sucks!

I also went a couple of ...I also went a couple of nights ago and they were closed. The sign said that it was for not meeting the health regulations, something along those lines.
Megamart in Landmark is open...Hope this helps

Yes you are right ...Yes your are right the Ministry of Agriculture is closing down any shops selling bad or old meat. This is the reason that the butcher in Carrefour was closed down they were putting new and old ground beef in one packet. Foosty I think is what you were looking for

bhs ...OK, panic over. Clearly this was just the mother of all clearance sales. They've got lots of new stuff in there now.

Mega Mart ...The meat section at Mega Mart was closed for mixing day or days old meat with "fresh" meat. About 10 days later a spot check at the cheese and cold cuts section revealed mouldy cheese so the whole place was shut down for 3 days which is kind of a last warning.
A word of advice; don't buy any of the packaged fish (I don't mean frozen but the stuff they package like shrimp etc and put in the refregirator next to the the fresh fish section) from the Mega Mart as they do change the date sticker for any unsold items. And that's a fact! Shameful really since they're the most expensive supermarket in Doha and have the highest markups.
What I do is buy all the necessities from the Family Food Center and then the special imports which I can't find there I buy from Mega. These are the imported packaged items they can't fiddle with except for pricing.
