Resident Visa

If I have an indefinite contract w/ my employer is my visa valid as long as I am employed or do I have to renew it periodocally i.e. every year or five years etc.

Visa ( Rsident permit ) will be limited for one or two years irrespective of the length of contract. After the validity - u will have a renewal for another two years and so on.....

For Oil companies the residence permit is valid for 3 years for Unlimited contract employees...

What is involved in renewing your resident visa, do you have to go through all the medicals and stuff again or is it just a matter of paying a fee and filling out the forms?

Your employer will handle everything for the renewal. There's no need for any of the first-time formalities.

My contract with my employer and I am yet to secure another job. Can anyone help me with any information as to how to transfer my sponsorship until I am able to get another job.

I'm not sure that you can.
If my memory serves me correctly, you have to leave the country within so many days of the sponsorship and residence permit being cancelled.
No doubt if I am wrong, someone will correct me.
