Traffic Lights

Sandra's picture

OMG, we received two tickets from the Traffic Department, both because we didn't wait the green light, now we have to pay 3000QR (is always that expensive ???). Never ever again i will do it, even if i have to wait 10 minutes in front of the red light without one car around me, why i didn't know before about the camera on the lights ??? :(

Now you know what the colored lights at intersections are for.

You can always check your traffic violations at http://www.e.gov.qa/...

sorry... but that's really funny. Please don't tell which lights it was as I really hope more people get done - that's the only way people will start to actually follow the road rules here - if they are enforced!!

Always look around, it's easy to see the cam next to signals. However, 3000K is too much. You need to tell them to reduce that, they would accept, because you're a lady. Speak with them within a nice way, they might reduce it to 500. Becareful next time.

We always assumed that obeying traffic lights was compulsory for expatriates but only advisory for nationals.
Always check both ways before crossing any junction..... green light or not!

3000 is too much, some people's salary is that much or less. You should try to speak to the senior officers in the traffic department.

It will be good if they start giving fines fairly and equally to all - that will hopefully make Doha little bit more orderly.

Qatarcat said Traffic fines ...

Ha, I think no matter how much people complain that "other drivers" don't follow the rules, they still compalin when they themselves don't follow the rules and get fined. Lights are there for a reason. I am sure the police won't reduce the fines. It seems that only by imposing really heavy fines that will hit every pocket people will actually learn to follow the rules of traffic in this country.

In Dutch cities you will pay about $1000 for parking in a space reserved for disabled drivers. Expensive for a small offence? Yes it is, and it's no wonder that nobody parks there illegally. So it works.

And when I hear the argument "Some people's salaries are less than that" I get really mad. Is that really the reason for breaking the rules??? Don't break them, and you won't have to pay more than your salary in fines.

Is not reason to break the rules, that was a big mistake and happened because we thought the light was not working (not excuse but in my country happen all the time so you never know) ... anyway we have to pay. :(

airliner said Fair enough ...

Although my sympathy for the people who r fined so heavily But its the only way to make people to follow the rules and regulations.

I am sure if its only 500 riyals , many people with higher salaries will not hesitate again to take a chance to break it.

The fine should be such that the one breaking a rule must have a lesson. And I hope that not only sandra but also the people who read this - will think a few times atleast before breaking any signal.

Lets have safe Qatar.

This reminds me of when they first implemented the radar thing in Doha. In that yr, I went to renew my car registration n the officer told me I got 4 speeding tickets which was worth 2000. I was like wow, was I speeding so much?!! Then he said he will confirm the number of tickets (They had to check the printed reports at those days) so he asked me to come back in the afternoon. By the afternoon, I came back n the 4 became 7 which was QR. 3,500 :(.. I paid it at once b4 the number goes to 20 :(. As u would expect, I never got a ticket after that yr (H) Oh, apart from a parking over the sidewalk ticket which I done for like 5 min but for my luck, a police car had to pass by :(

Jassim,
I think the year was 1992 or 1993. I had just bought a Honda Vigor (240kph top speed) that would enable me to get back from Dukhan GC in 30 minutes when they brought in radar.
I was not amused.
