The situation can still be contained without further escalation, says top official

Qatar has reiterated its warning against further escalation that could turn the ongoing tensions into a wider regional war, stressing that the situation can still be contained.

Dr. Majed bin Mohammed Al Ansari, Advisor to the Prime Minister and Official Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, made these remarks during a Press conference on Tuesday, describing the current trajectory as extremely dangerous for the region.

Al Ansari cautioned that if the situation remains unchecked and the conflict shifts from negotiation tables to battlefields, it could result in even more catastrophic consequences for the people of the region.

He also condemned attacks on vital infrastructure that sustain people’s daily lives, warning that such actions pose serious risks and must stop immediately.

“These attacks could lead to a humanitarian catastrophe,” Al Ansari said, noting that such incidents have already occurred on both sides of the Gulf.

He stressed that targeting civilian populations or civilian entities in any conflict is unacceptable.

“Civilian people and institutions should never be targeted in any war or conflict. Attacking the systems that make life possible for people is one of the worst forms of harm,” he said, adding that Qatar has taken all necessary precautions to safeguard its facilities.

Al Ansari urged all parties to take immediate steps to halt attacks that could damage critical infrastructure. He further warned that strikes on energy facilities, which have occurred on both sides, set a dangerous precedent that could harm not only the regional economy but also have global repercussions.

He concluded by welcoming the efforts of any parties willing to contribute to bringing the conflict to an end.
