Three new parks open in Al Wakrah and Al Wukair

The Ministry of Municipality has opened three new neighbourhood parks in Al Wakrah and Al Wukair, expanding access to green and recreational spaces for residents in the area.

Developed in coordination with the Public Works Authority (Ashghal), the new parks are named Al Mashmoum, Al Khuzama and Al Arak.

The projects form part of the Ministry of Municipality’s efforts to increase green spaces, enhance quality of life and provide healthier and more sustainable public environments across Qatar.

Parks designed for families and local communities

The three parks have been designed around the everyday needs of residents and include a mix of recreational, sports and relaxation facilities.

Amenities include jogging tracks, sports facilities, children’s play areas and landscaped green spaces, giving families and individuals more opportunities to exercise, spend time outdoors and take part in community activities.

Mohammed Ibrahim Al Sada, Director of the Parks Department at the Ministry of Municipality, said the developments are neighbourhood parks intended to provide essential recreational facilities close to residential areas.

Names inspired by Qatar’s local environment

The names Al Mashmoum, Al Khuzama and Al Arak were selected in reference to Qatar’s local environment and heritage.

The Ministry said the naming approach aims to strengthen Qatari identity, highlight the country’s environmental and cultural heritage and preserve traditional local names by incorporating them into public facilities.

Expanding green spaces closer to homes

Assistant Undersecretary for General Services Affairs at the Ministry of Municipality Eng. Abdullah Ahmed Al Karani said the openings form part of ongoing efforts to develop parks and public facilities across different areas.

He said the parks were designed to encourage healthier lifestyles by providing spaces for recreation, physical activity and relaxation.

The Ministry is also seeking to distribute green and recreational facilities more widely so residents can access parks and public amenities closer to where they live.

The three new parks support the Ministry of Municipality’s 2024–2030 Strategy and the wider goals of Qatar National Vision 2030, particularly in relation to environmental sustainability, public health and quality of life.

Further development of parks and recreational facilities is expected to continue as part of efforts to make residential areas across Qatar more attractive, active and family-friendly.
