A Brief History

Marina District was among the first phases of Lusail City, the large master-planned development led by Qatari Diar, the real-estate arm of the Qatar Investment Authority. Work on Lusail began in the mid-2000s, with major construction through the 2010s and the earliest residents moving in toward the end of that decade. The district was conceived as the city's animated hub, organised around a marina with more than 1,200 berths and expansive public spaces opening onto the sea. Its completion helped establish Lusail as one of Qatar's flagship new-city projects.

Architecture & Character

The district is defined by contemporary mid-to-high-rise towers rather than villas or compounds, lining a waterfront rather than an inland grid. Glass-and-steel residential and hotel buildings sit along a landscaped seafront promenade with cycling and walking paths, water features and eateries. Several towers carry distinctive, sculptural designs, and the wider setting includes the marina itself and the nearby Parisian-inspired Place Vendome retail and hospitality destination.
