A Brief History

Porto Arabia was developed by United Development Company (UDC) as part of The Pearl-Qatar, an island created through land reclamation off Doha that was announced in the mid-2000s. The district was among the first parts of the island to be completed, welcoming its first residents in 2009. It holds particular significance as part of the first development in Qatar where non-Qatari nationals were able to buy property on a freehold basis, opening the local market to foreign ownership. The area formed the initial phase of a wider island vision that later added further precincts and amenities.

Architecture & Character

The district is defined by a crescent of low- to mid-rise residential towers wrapped around a working yacht marina, with architecture drawing on Mediterranean and Riviera influences from French, Italian and Spanish traditions. At ground level, the towers open onto La Croisette, a roughly 2.5-kilometre pedestrian boulevard lined with retail, dining and cafe terraces facing the moored boats. Townhouses and terrace-style apartments sit alongside the towers, and the overall feel is that of a planned, pedestrian-friendly waterfront quarter rather than a traditional villa compound or older neighbourhood. The marina itself is among the largest in the region and is a signature landmark of the wider island.
