A Brief History

Qanat Quartier was developed by United Development Company (UDC) as one of the residential precincts of The Pearl-Qatar, the country's first major development to open freehold ownership to non-Qataris. Construction of The Pearl began in the mid-2000s, with Qanat Quartier delivered as a later phase and its first residents moving in around 2012. The district was conceived to evoke the canals and streetscapes of Venice, giving The Pearl a distinct waterfront quarter alongside neighbouring Porto Arabia and Viva Bahriya.

Architecture & Character

The quarter is defined by low-rise, pastel-coloured buildings, known locally as "Palazzos," rather than high-rise towers, arranged along roughly 1.6 kilometres of canals and connected by a series of arched pedestrian bridges. Its landmarks include a Venice-inspired Rialto-style bridge, waterside piazzas, boardwalks lined with cafés and boutiques, and a beachfront. Homes range from one- to five-bedroom apartments to two- and three-bedroom townhouses, some with direct canal frontage or beach access, and the whole precinct is designed to be walkable and human-scaled.
