A Brief History

The island was master-planned as part of Lusail City's northern expansion and is developed by Qetaifan Projects, a company established in 2017 and owned by Katara Hospitality. Residential plots were released to buyers in phases from around 2020, while work on the island's landmark waterpark progressed through the early 2020s. Meryal Waterpark opened in late November 2023, cementing Qetaifan Island as one of Qatar's flagship leisure destinations.
