Visa for a Hepatitis-C carrier?

initiator's picture

Hello all,

I recently got a job offer from Qatar, however, I was diagnosed with Hepatitis-C 6 years ago. The disease was treated with peginterferon, so i am conifdent that it is gone. I recently did a blood test again and it came out positive. Apparently the reason for that is that Hep C shows up positive on the test results till 10 years after the disease has been treated. I did HCV RNA (quantitative) test again and result came out negative. The question really is, would I get the work visa or not?

thanks

I seriously doubt you will. The slightest hint of disease they cancel residence and throw you out, they don't risk anything here. A guy started working for us and while doing his medical checkups he was diagnosed with TB. They repeated the test 3 times and then threw him out of the country. He was filipino. It happened to an Indian guy here as well. So... good luck man!

Thank you for your response. The only thing that gives me hope is that any doctor/medical professional who knows this, can certify that I do not suffer from the disease. They have to, however, made to consider the detailed RNA reports.

I have also heard that they are more strict about hepatitis for medical professionals, food handlers and school teachers etc. Kindly enlighten me on that.

thanks

Well certainly the position you're applying for matters. For example, and please don't take offense as sadly this is the situation, if an American is being examined for the position of Manager of whatever and his X-Rays show something weird, he will be re-examined over & over until HE is satisfied that he's sick. However, if a Nepalese laborer comes out with a possibility of TB or "the flu", he's deported so fast it'll make his head spin!

Very rightly put, Cumbersome. Well I hold a so called "elite country" citizenship, so that gives me some hope that they would at least listen to me.

I would appreciate if someone could elaborate on the requirements for medical and non-medical professions.
