Foreign ministers of Qatar, seven other Islamic nations condemn Israeli escalation at Al-Aqsa Mosque

The foreign ministers of Qatar, Jordan, the UAE, Indonesia, Pakistan, Türkiye, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt strongly condemned Israel’s escalation at Al-Aqsa Mosque/Haram Al-Sharif, including mass settler incursions led by extremist Israeli ministers under police protection, the raising of the Israeli flag, police tents, and other provocative acts.

They said these actions violate international law, UN resolutions, and the historical and legal status quo governing holy sites in occupied East Jerusalem.

The ministers also denounced extremist incitement, calls for incursions, and violence by Israeli ministers and extremist groups.

They warned that such acts fuel hatred and extremism, obstruct a just and lasting peace based on the two-state solution, and represent illegal attempts to alter Jerusalem’s historical, legal, and demographic character.

Restrictions on access to Jerusalem’s Old City, Al-Aqsa Mosque, and other places of worship were described as discriminatory violations of international humanitarian law.

The ministers stressed that Israel has no sovereignty over occupied Jerusalem or its Islamic and Christian holy sites.

They reaffirmed their rejection of any change to the status quo, emphasized preserving the special role of the historic Hashemite custodianship, and stated that the entire 144-dunum Al-Aqsa Mosque/Haram Al-Sharif compound is exclusively a Muslim place of worship.

They further affirmed that the Jordanian Ministry of Awqaf’s Jerusalem Waqf and Al-Aqsa Mosque Affairs Department is the sole legal authority responsible for the site and regulating entry.

The ministers called on Israel to immediately lift restrictions on access to Jerusalem’s Old City and stop obstructing Muslim worshippers’ access to Al-Aqsa Mosque.

They urged the international community to compel Israel to end its violations and illegal practices against Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.
