Qatar, Egypt sign four agreements to boost cooperation

Qatar and Egypt signed four agreements on Thursday covering customs and regulatory cooperation, development and health cooperation, and the establishment of the Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani Hospital in Sohag, Egypt.

Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani said he hoped the hospital would significantly advance healthcare in the governorate.

Following the seventh Qatar-Egypt Joint Higher Committee meeting, HE Sheikh Mohammed said the two countries’ deep-rooted ties were advancing across economic, investment and regional-security areas.

He welcomed the launch of the first phase of the Alam Al Roum project and said Qatar and Egypt would explore further opportunities, particularly in industry and pharmaceuticals.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty said both sides also agreed to deepen business partnerships, increase trade, consider a joint business council and hold a third Egyptian-Qatari Investment Forum.

On Gaza, the ministers said Qatar, Egypt and Türkiye had coordinated efforts that helped secure Palestinian factions’ acceptance of the peace plan and readiness for weapons-collection arrangements. They said Israel must now fulfil its commitments, including humanitarian access, early recovery, infrastructure and hospital rehabilitation, weapons restrictions, Israeli withdrawal and an end to targeting.

The roadmap also envisages the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza, Palestinian police and an international stabilisation force, leading to Palestinian self-determination and an independent state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The talks also addressed Sudan, Libya and freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and Bab el-Mandeb. Both sides supported diplomatic solutions, respect for international maritime law and the security of Qatar and Gulf states. Qatar and Egypt will continue coordination, with the eighth Joint Higher Committee session due in Doha.
