Qatar welcomes Netherlands and Belgium bans on Israeli settlement products

The State of Qatar has welcomed decisions by the Netherlands and Belgium to ban products originating from Israeli settlements.

In a statement, Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the measures as a crucial step supporting international efforts to discourage settlement policies and protect the rights of the Palestinian people.

Qatar highlights international law

The ministry said Israeli settlement policies violate international legitimacy, particularly United Nations Security Council Resolution 2334.

Adopted in 2016, Resolution 2334 states that Israeli settlements established in Palestinian territories occupied since 1967, including East Jerusalem, have no legal validity and constitute a flagrant violation of international law. It also identifies settlement activity as a major obstacle to achieving a two-state solution.

Qatar said the decisions taken by the Netherlands and Belgium represent an important practical measure against activities linked to settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories.
