Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani held a telephone conversation with Iran’s Minister of Foreign Affairs of Abbas Araghchi.
During the call, they reviewed efforts aimed at achieving peace and enhancing security and stability in the region.
HE Sheikh Mohammed reiterated Qatar’s full support for ongoing efforts aimed at reaching a comprehensive agreement to end the crisis, stressing the need for all parties to respond positively to these efforts in a way that contributes to achieving sustainable peace and the desired stability in the region.
He emphasised that freedom of navigation is a fundamental and non-negotiable principle, and that closing the Strait of Hormuz or using it as a pressure tactic will only deepen the crisis and jeopardise the vital interests of the region's countries.
He affirmed the importance of adhering to the rules of international law and the principles of good neighbourliness, and prioritising the interests of the region and its people, which contributes to strengthening regional and international security and stability and supports efforts to de-escalate tensions.
