Fresh to strong northwesterly winds are expected to sweep across Qatar on Tuesday and Wednesday (December 30 and 31), bringing a noticeable drop in temperatures and a marked cold wave, the Qatar Meteorology Department (QMD) warned.
The strengthening northwesterlies will cause a significant fall in temperatures across the country and increase the feeling of cold, particularly during the night and early morning hours, with the chill further intensified by the brisk winds.
On Monday morning, Al Ghuwayriyah and Al Shahaniyah weather stations recorded the lowest temperature at 15°C, while Doha registered a minimum of 21°C, providing an early indication of the cooler conditions to come.
Marine warnings will remain in effect throughout this period due to expected rough sea conditions, and QMD has advised residents and visitors to exercise caution, especially in open areas.
In its earlier outlook, the department noted that the cold wave beginning Tuesday is likely to persist through the coming week, with sustained northwesterly winds maintaining the colder-than-usual weather.
