In official talks between Dr Ali Bin Smaikh Al Marri, Chairman of the National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) and French government officials and parliamentarians, Dr Al Marri has called attention to addressing the human rights violations imposed on Qatar as a consequence of the blockade.
Dr Al Marri urged the French officials to take up the matter in the meetings that are due to take place between the French officials and their counterparts from the blockading countries, while emphasizing the need for a stronger partnership with the NHRC to protect and advance human rights in the country, reported the Gulf Times.

NHRC has received scores of complaints from residents and citizens of Qatar whose rights have been violated under the unfair blockade imposed on Qatar since June 5, 2017, Dr Al Marri highlighted during his meetings with the president of the French National Assembly, Richard Ferrand, and Minister of Justice of France, Nicole Belloubet.
The political crisis in the Gulf region is by no means a justification to further increase the violations to human rights, Dr Al Marri stressed. He said that the matter is crucial and the repercussions of this humanitarian crisis should be discussed in the French National Assembly as France has always stood up for the protection of human rights in different parts of the world.
Hundreds of families continue to suffer as a result of the blockade, where loved ones were separated from each other and many students were forced to abandon their programs of study in the siege countries, Dr Al Marri reiterated.
Moreover, the NHCR Chairman called on the French government to take action to end the politicization of its long-standing educational and cultural institutes, referring to the expulsion of Qatari students from the Sorbonne University in Abu Dhabi in addition to the distortion of the geographical facts of a map in the Lourve Abu Dhabi Museum, according to The Peninsula.
He further reflected on the signing of several agreements and memorandums of understanding between Qatar and France, such as the Ombudsman of the French Republic and commended the launch of the strategic dialogue between the two friendly countries.
Dr Al Marri expressed hope that the Qatar-France ties will be further strengthened under a continuous dialogue and a strong partnership in the field of human rights, exchange of experiences and expertise between the governments of the two countries and human rights bodies and institutions.
