Carrefour Qatar, in a monumental milestone, has raised 5 million Qatari riyals through its fundraising efforts since the last 15 months. The proceedings were donated to the Education Above All Foundation’s “Together” project to enable vulnerable children and learners to attain access to quality education in Qatar.
The funds have been utilised to support the operations expenses of First Assalam School and ensuring access to education for students in 8 community schools across Doha.
The ‘Together’ project has helped over 2000 students through their enrolment in school, including the support of school operation expenses to provide equal opportunities and access for all children, both boys and girls, in Qatar.
Laurent Hausknecht, Country Head of Carrefour Qatar, said, “Our partnership with Education Above All Foundation reflects our commitment to helping children access quality education as we are deeply convinced that education is key to a healthy and sustainable society. We would like to thank our cashiers and all our customers for their generous donations, since the launch of this initiative in our stores in May 2019.”
Mubarak Al-Thani, Communication Manager at EAA, said: "Education Above all Foundation looks forward to continuing to work alongside Carrefour Qatar. We collaboratively strive to provide our children with equitable access to quality education through financial support, capacity building and facilitating the establishment of alternative education pathways. Assalam Schools, established in 2019 under the Together project, aims to mitigate barriers such as financial, language and educational gap, faced by children to access education in Qatar ".
In collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, the project aims to unlock their potential to be productive, responsible and contributing residents who transform their local communities and contribute to the country’s economic prosperity.
