If you have gone to the Doha Corniche for a walk or for a jog, then you are sure to have seen the traditional dhows, decked in bright lights, waiting for people to come aboard for a cruise on the Doha Bay.
A trip on board the dhow, taking in the night view of Doha city, is a regular staple for people who have relatives visiting them in Qatar.
If at least some of you felt that boarding the dhow was unsafe, then it is time for you to rest easy. This is because the Central Municipal Council (CMC) has recommended further measures to ensure safety of dhow boat passengers at the Doha Corniche, reported Qatar Tribune.
The recommendations include ensuring kids under 12 years of age wear lifejackets during rides and giving training to the boat crew to serve as lifeguards in case of an emergency.
Proper safety mechanisms should be installed to ensure safe entry and exit of passengers to the boar. There will also be a fixed number of passengers in a dhow per trip.
The boats should be well maintained and made attractive to paint a good picture of Doha in the minds of tourists, the CMS noted. CMC members also suggested installation of silent engines on boats to avoid noise pollution.
