Saturday saw almost a year’s worth of rain fall in Qatar on a single day and it caused flash floods in different parts of the country. It also threw normal life into disarray.

While a number of institutions have announced in the country has said that they will remain closed today, others have said that it would be business as normal.

Here is a look at which institutions will be closed today and which will be not.

SCHOOLS

Qatar’s Ministry of Education and Higher Education has said that it will be a normal academic day for all schools except some of them, reported Gulf Times.

While a majority of schools will function like normal, some of them will not be able to accommodate students as task forces carry out repair works to infrastructure. Parents of children studying in affected schools have already been notified of the closure.

There had been rumours flying around on social media saying schools would remain closed today, but they should not be trusted.

SIDRA MEDICINE

Sidra Medicine’s Outpatient Clinic will be closed for appointments today. However, the Paediatric Infusion and Hematology Oncology sections will function as normal.

The institution said that patients who are affected by the closure will be alerted through SMSs. The Children’s Emergency and Urgent Care ward at the main hospital will remain open.

“Having assessed the impact of heavy rain on roads in Doha, we’ve taken this decision to ensure the safety of all members of our community, which is our top priority,” it said.

QATAR NATIONAL LIBRARY

The Qatar National Library will remain closed today. All events that were supposed to take place at the library premises have also been cancelled, reported The Peninsula.

Even yesterday, the library had closed earlier than usual, at 2pm, due to the adverse weather situation.

“We’d like to assure everyone that the safety of our users and visitors is our highest priority. Despite today’s weather conditions, the situation at the Library is fully under control and all our visitors, staff members, and our collections are perfectly safe.
“As heavy rain is expected to continue & for the safety of our users & staff, the Library will be closed on 21 October. All events on that day will be cancelled. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause,” the entity tweeted.
