As relevant authorities continue to implement a package of decisions and measures to tackle the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), under the directives of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the country’s General Authority of Customs (GAC) has announced an exemption of customs duties for 905 food and medical items.

The customs duties on these commodities that are listed in the “Nadeeb” system for electronic customs clearance have been canceled.

This decision will be in effect for a period of six months.

The GAC said that it is coordinating with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MOCI) to ensure the implementation of the exemption.

MOCI has approved a list that includes names of food and medical items on which the exemption has been applied.

The exemption will apply to different items such as basic foodstuff commodities and some medical requirements for prevention and personal and household hygiene.

The main foods to which the exemption applies are: meat, fish, dairy, cheese, legumes, oils, pastries, juices, among others.

For medical supplies, it will apply on items such as face masks, sterilizers, soap products, detergents, sterilization wipes, personal and household hygiene items for personal use.
