India has appointed Dr K Srikar Reddy as its next Ambassador to Qatar, the Ministry of External Affairs announced on Friday.
Reddy, who is currently Consul General of India in San Francisco, is expected to assume his new assignment shortly. The Embassy of India in Doha also announced the appointment on X.
A native of Telangana’s Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district and an alumnus of Kakatiya Medical College in Warangal, Reddy has served at Indian missions to the United Nations, the World Trade Organization, Switzerland, Germany, Vietnam and the United States. He has also worked in India’s Ministry of Commerce.
His appointment follows the selection of the current Indian Ambassador to Qatar, Vipul, as India’s next Ambassador to Saudi Arabia.
The transition comes as India and Qatar maintain extensive ties spanning trade, investment, energy cooperation and people-to-people links. India’s Ministry of External Affairs estimates that approximately 830,000 Indians live in Qatar, making them the country’s largest expatriate community.
