The first day of Eid-al-Fitr this year is expected to be Wednesday, June 5, according to experts at Qatar Astronomical Society (QAS).

Qatar, however, the official Eid announcement will come from the Crescent Moon Sighting Committee of the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs.

According to Qatar News Agency, the Head of QAS, Dr Khaled bin Abdulla Turki al-Subaey stated that the crescent will be absent in Doha only three minutes after sunset, and the maximum time the moon will remain in the Arab world will be in Rabat, where it will be absent after sunset by only 12 minutes.

Qatar astronomical society expected that the first day of Eid Al Fitr will fall on Wednesday, June 5th. The State of Qatar depends on the Eid announcement from the Crescent Moon Sighting Committee of the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs.

He further said that according to astronomy, Tuesday, June 4 will be the last day of Ramadan for all countries that require crescent moon sighting and the month of Shawwal will begin on Wednesday, June 5.
