National Sport Day (NSD) 2020 is just around the corner and we are already in celebratory mode. The day serves as a reminder for the people of Qatar to maintain a healthy lifestyle and be active.

Each year, since it began in 2012, NSD is held on the second Tuesday of every February.

Several organizations and entities in Qatar commemorate the day with various fun and engaging activities for young and old alike.

Citizens and residents come together to celebrate the day with full fervor and high energy, contributing to promoting good health and wellbeing through sports and other physical activities.

If you’re unsure about joining in the NSD celebrations this year, here’s why you must think twice:

Fun Activities

Often, one of the things that deter people from participating in sports activities is the thought about performing well. Don’t worry about how well you’ll do, rather focus on the fun you’ll have! Most of those who come down to mark the occasion aren’t professionals either. The whole idea is to get on the go and have fun while you’re at it.

Popular public venues such as Katara, Aspire Zone, and Doha Festival City, among others, organize a plethora of activities. You can have a look at the different offerings and make your pick!

Take your family and friends along to double the fun.

Active and Healthy Lifestyle

The main idea behind NSD is to recognize the significance of adopting a healthy lifestyle. While most of us know what constitutes a healthy lifestyle, sometimes we limit ourselves from exploring new kinds of activities. This is why the NSD experience is important.

The day underscores that being active doesn’t have to be boring. You can get some inspiration from the kinds of unique group activities featured on NSD and make them a part of your lifestyle.

Remember, no matter the kind of sport, any effort that you make will contribute to your overall health and wellbeing. If you’re a parent, this is a wonderful way to promote the idea of good health and fitness amongst your young ones.

Moreover, you can also benefit from free-of-cost medical check-ups and get health advice from professionals at different NSD venues.

Community Building

Perhaps one of the most important countrywide initiatives, NSD is the perfect occasion to experience national unity, camaraderie, and belonging.

Community members, including expats and locals, join each other in the exciting events, paving the way for stronger community bonds.

As you take part in the games and present your best team spirit, one thing is for sure; you will have a fabulous time!

If you’ve never been part of the NSD activities, give it a go and see for yourself.

The country’s leadership is on the ground to celebrate

No words of appreciation can be enough for Qatar’s wise leadership. His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, who serves as a role model for the entire nation, partakes in the NSD activities.

Last year, HH the Amir accompanied by FIFA President Gianni Infantino, among other dignitaries, participated in a fun football game at the Aspire Zone Foundation.

Other members of the Qatari leadership, including Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, Her Excellency Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al Thani, HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani and HE Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad Al Thani as well as several other top officials also lead by example and join community members as champions of a healthy lifestyle.

NSD is a great occasion to extend your support to the national movement, spearheaded by the country’s leadership, toward a healthier community.

As you take those steps toward a fitter you and display your sporting spirit, you will end up making great memories to cherish for a while!

If you’re sure you’d be joining the fun this National Sport Day, let us know where you plan to go.

As always, our team will be on the ground to cover the NSD events around Qatar.
