French President Emmanuel Macron, who is in Qatar on an official visit, has backed the mediation efforts led by Kuwait to end the six-month blockade imposed on Qatar by Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates and Bahrain.

“With regards to the situation in the Gulf, I want to see a promise of reconciliation between its members, as I’ve said since the beginning of the crisis,” he said at a joint Press conference in Doha with HH The Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, reported Al Jazeera.

Earlier, HH The Emir and the French President had held official talks at the Emiri Diwan, which was also attended by Deputy Emir HH Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al Thani, reported The Peninsula.

During the session, the two sides discussed means to enhance relations between the two countries and aspects of developing them in various fields.

The two leaders also reviewed efforts of the two countries in the fight against terrorism as part of regional and international efforts to block its financial sources and address its causes, according to Qatar Tribune.
