Hamad International Airport (HIA) is witnessing an increase in operations in the second quarter of this year as one of the busiest travel seasons is underway. 

According to statistics released by Qatar Civil Aviation Authority, the airport served as many as 9,387,314mn passengers in contrast to 7,892,456 during the same period last year. This marks an increase of almost 19 percent in passenger traffic.

HIA handled 56,452 aircraft movements in the second quarter of this year, compared to 53,517 during the same period in 2018, indicating a rise of 5.5 percent.

Cargo and mail also went up by 0.3 percent, with 550,336 shipping movements, in comparison to 548,917 during the same period last year. 

HIA, in collaboration with Qatar National Tourism Council (QNTC), Qatar Airways and Qatar Duty-Free,  is celebrating the biggest ‘Summer in Qatar’ program yet with an array of summer activities and experiences across the terminal to enrich the experience of travelers arriving at or transiting through the airport.

Earlier this year, HIA was also recognized as the fourth-best airport in the world at the Skytrax World Airport Awards 2019 held in London. 

HIA has also been named as the best airport in the Middle East by Skytrax.
